Phaedra
Leonard Baskin
Bronze Sculpture
1969
H30" x W16" x D17"

Phaedra was consumed with guilt over her illicit love for Hippolytus, son of her husband, Theseus from a previous marriage. The story comes from Euripides. This is the first wrapped figure in Baskin’s work, the garments obscuring all but a glimpse of her pained face.
