Study for the Divinator
Leonard Baskin
Bronze Sculpture
1974
H31" x W9" x D6"

This was one of the works leading up to Baskin’s towering bronze, The Divinator. He often worked out an idea in a progressive series, sometimes in a variety of media leading to a sculpture. The piece shows Baskin’s affinity for Egyptian and Mesopotamian art. The divinator or prophet had a solemn social responsibility to keep the State safe from enemies and from the anger of the gods.
