Fine Art: Frances Cohen Gillespie

Frances Cohen Gillespie (1939-1998) knew she wanted to be an artist since she was 3 years old. She went on to study at Cooper Union, where she met Gregory Gillespie. The pair connected over their artistic influence and techniques, as well as their shared love for Italian and Flemish renaissance artworks. They even studied together in the places that brought them such inspiration: Florence and Rome. Frances Gillespie’s drive to create representational artworks in the largely abstract art scene of the 1950’s and 60’s set her apart from other artists, becoming known for her highly detailed, largescale floral imagery. Frances Gillespie passed at the height of her career due to illness. See Gregory Gillespie’s work here.
