Purgatory XI, 61-64

The speaker is Omberto Aldobrandesco. He was killed by the Sienese in the siege of his stronghold in 1259. He held out against overwhelming odds out of excessive pride of his lineage and contempt for his opponents. His death led to Sienese rule and the demise of his entire family line.
