A commission from the National Park Service for drawings for a new guidebook to Little Bighorn National Monument led to a large body of work depicting Native American figures. Baskin rebelled against the Hollywood stereotypes and clichés and captured the sense of loss and betrayal as well as the strength and intensity of the native peoples.
